Give Back to Seattle
In Seattle there are more than 16,000 homeless people.
There are not enough beds in shelters for that many people. Seattle struggled to provide enough shelter beds when there was less than a quarter of that number. In 2023, 421 people died due to being unsheltered in King county.
In order to help the unsheltered people of Seattle, we need to care and invest. We want to be smart about the way we do that.
Shelter is critical for humans, especially when people are trying to get back on their feet. Elihu is helping to create more beds and shelter by buying an distributing backpack beds. By doing this, we are providing shelter, warmth, sleep and hope to the unhoused population in Seattle.
We are also saving the community and City of Seattle a considerable amount of money. It costs more than $40 per night to shelter someone. That is $1,200 per month in shelter costs for one person.
One backpack bed costs $144. if a homeless person uses it four nights, it is more cost efficient than a city provided shelter bed. Over the course of a month the backpack bed pays for itself eight times. A single bed is estimated to save the community $3,319 in costs.
Our goal is to raise funds to purchase sixteen backpack beds. A total of $2,304 would have an impact of $53,000.
Join us as we give back to the city and the people living on the street.
